The first church at Ripon was founded in the seventh century and the original crypt, built by St Wilfrid still survives. Most of the present building dates from the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries when it was known as Ripon Minster. Its treasures include several fifteenth century misericords. The Cathedral is open to the public.
