Gotland - Stone Ships

Photograph Gallery

Gotland is an island in the Baltic that was well populated and an important trading centre throughout the medieval period. From the iron age to the viking age it was customary to bury the dead in stone ships many of which survive. Gotland is now part of Sweden. All the sites shown here are open to the public.
